Booknook

Support

A walnut bookcase for the books you love. Here’s how everything works, and how to reach me if something doesn’t.

Getting started

Add a book
Tap the small brass + at the end of your books. Type the title and author, choose a binding colour, and tap ✓. The book flies into its place.
Give it its real cover
As you type, covers from Open Library appear under the title. Tap one to put it on the book, or tap it again to go back. The camera icon lets you scan your own copy or choose a photo.
Take a book down, and put it back
Tap a book to take it off the shelf. Tap anywhere around it, or swipe it down, to put it back.
Write inside
Swipe the cover open (or tap the page edge, or the book icon), then tap the page. A book with a note shows a silk ribbon on the shelf.
Quotes
Select a passage and choose Quote, or tap “ in the strip above the keyboard. Tap the pencilled “p. __” under a quote to add its page and chapter.
Rearrange
Touch and hold a book, then drag it where you want it.
Share
Tap the share icon under an open book (with or without your note), choose Share Quote inside a quote, or touch and hold the empty part of a shelf to share the whole shelf.
Finished date
Edit a book and tap Add date finished.
Widget
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, and choose Booknook (small, medium or large).

Questions

Why did the lighting change?
From 7 pm to 6 am the bookcase switches from the warm lamp to its shelf lights.
No covers appear when I type a title.
Covers need a connection, and Open Library is sometimes slow or doesn’t have the book. Try just the title, check the spelling, or photograph your own copy.
Is my library backed up?
Your library lives on your iPhone and is included in your iPhone’s iCloud or computer backup. There’s no account and no sync between devices yet.
I hear no sounds.
The app follows the silent switch. Turn it off to hear the shelf.
What do you do with my data?
Nothing. It never reaches me. See the privacy policy.
